Lap three shouldn't be where your day ends.
Grip that outlasts the chunder, legs that descend as well at 4pm as they did at 10am, and a body that gets back up when you case one.
We know where you are
- Arm pump cuts your park day short before your legs are even tired.
- Gym leg day does nothing for descending, the quad burn on day two of every trip proves it.
- Your low back aches from holding attack position through every rock garden.
What a plan looks like
- Training
- Eccentric quad work and hinge strength for descending control, forearm-endurance blocks separate from grip strength, and rotational core work that maps to cornering, programmed around your riding days, not instead of them.
- Nutrition
- Fueling for multi-lap days and bike-park trips so day three doesn't run on fumes, plus recovery eating that fits a normal workweek.
- Supplement suggestions
- A short, boring, evidence-backed list: creatine and electrolytes where they earn a place, with the reasoning written out. Nothing sold here, ever.
We program forearm endurance separately from grip strength, because arm pump is a blood-flow problem before it's a strength problem, and no amount of dead hangs fixes brake-finger fatigue on a six-minute descent.
From Eleanor
Approach days with a heavy pack taught me what your forearms learn in a rock garden: the small muscles quit first, and they quit loudest. I can't ride a berm to save my life. But building a body that still works on lap five, at hour six, on day three is what I've spent twenty years on.
